The mind, once expanded to the dimensions of larger ideas, never returns to its original size.”
These famed words were spoken by Oliver Wendell Holmes. Though they ring of truth, they do not tell the whole story. We must focus on basic concepts and classic values, taking time to fully understand and integrate them into our character before we graduate to new ideas and innovations. I learned this by reading and studying the lives of remarkable and successful people whose values, ideas and actions have made the world a better place to live. Food For Thought is a tribute to great leaders, innovators, scientists, business people and humanitarians. Civilizations advancements have been built on man’s hunger for knowledge. Only by tasting from a smorgasbord of knowledge, past and present, can we begin to satisfy our appetite for understanding.
The remarkable people of whom I speak share common values such as goal setting, belief in self, hard work, personal responsibility, honesty, strength of character and perseverance in the face of adversity and failure. These fundamental character traits are universal over time and culture. The path to success starts with these values, but requires individuals to do something a little different to make their life extraordinary. They think a little differently, look at things in a different way, or take actions that the average person would not.
Symbolically, Food For Thought is built on this same success model. Our food is prepared with love and served with pride. The foundation of our menu is built upon Classic American dishes such as Fork Tender Pot Roast, Grandma’s Meatloaf, and “fall off the bones” ribs. These are meals that America grew up on. To complement these American favorites we added some newer, more contemporary flavors and ideas like Pad Thai, Jamaican jerk chicken, flavored butters, and original vegetarian dishes.
A truly wonderful meal is a combination of good food and good conversation. So talk about the special people featured here. Talk about the contributions that these people have made to the world. Talk about how everyone can be great in his or her own way. Talk about how we can each make a significant contribution if we model the same principles and beliefs of those that have gone before us. Have fun while enjoying a deliciously inspiring meal and expand your mind as well as your belly. . .
